What are workshops?

Our workshops are small classes (generally between 10-20 attendees) where the trainer is able to give more focused and detailed training on specific issues.

As the classes are small, there is much more scope for discussion and interaction, both within the group and with the trainer. People generally find them very rewarding.

Many landlords will have some experience of cases in the County Court, perhaps while trying to recover possession or deal with a tenancy deposit claim. The First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) is, however, becoming the forum for an increasingly wide range of landlord and tenant disputes - for example claims relating to HMOs and service charges.

This course will look at the Tribunal’s jurisdiction and cover how to start and prepare for a Tribunal case. It will look at what happens at a hearing and even at appeals from Tribunal decisions. Topics covered will include:

  • AM

    About the First Tier Tribunal

Topics covered will include - What cases can go to the FTT(PC)? A case in the Tribunal, Transferring a case from the county court, Responding to a Tribunal case,

  • PM

    Hearings in the FTT

Topics covered will include -Mediation, Preparing for the hearing, How to deal with a Tribunal hearing, Costs, Reviews & appeals

Venue details

We will be in the board room of the Society of Authors in London, of which Tessa is a member.

Parking may be difficult but the venue is relatively close to South Kensington and Gloucester Road underground stations.

Facilities will include:

  • Tea & coffee on arrival and in the two breaks
  • Simple sandwich lunch (vegetarians catered for)
