Service charges are probably the main area of potential dispute between the parties to a lease. Lessees are becoming increasingly aware that they might challenge service charges in the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal.
If the charges, or the process are wrong, them they are liable to be reduced – possibly substantially, potentially totally. This can be catastrophic where a decision on one property can be rolled out to a whole estate – as cases widely reported in the housing press recently have pointed out.
It is crucial that those responsible for the management of leasehold property have a detailed and working knowledge of the law and process of the complex legal framework in this area if they are to effectively manage their stock.
As a Residential Property Tribunal Chair, John is well placed to talk about the issues and rules which apply in this difficult area.
Modules covered on this course:

Those attending the course will develop an appreciation and understanding of the layout and construction of a lease; the statutory framework underpinning this area; how to set service charges; consultation for major works; how to manage disputes, and how to prepare and present a case, before the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal.
Delegates will have a deeper understanding of the workings of the legislation and the expectation of the Courts, enabling them to make management decisions at an early stage based on what is achievable using the available tools. Opportunity to discuss case scenarios in a group environment will develop confidence to manage anti social behaviour caseloads.
Who should attend?
