What are workshops?

Our workshops are small classes (generally between 10-20 attendees) where the trainer is able to give more focused and detailed training on specific issues.

As the classes are small, there is much more scope for discussion and interaction, both within the group and with the trainer. People generally find them very rewarding.

About this workshop


  • AM

    The Underlying Rules

    Topics covered will include - The definition of an HMO, what is licensable and what is not, additional and selective licensing, making the application, understanding standards, HMOs and planning permission, HMOs and council tax. Includes all recent and forthcoming legal changes.

  • PM

    Management and practical issues

    Topics covered will include - Doing the required works, HMO Management Regulations, tenancies and licences, dealing with occupation agreements, Tenants rights outside the HMO regime, buying and selling, how to manage the licence and tenancies, changes, variations and renewals, what to do if it all goes wrong

Venue details

This workshop will take place at the Bermondsey Square Hotel which has easy access to London Bridge Railway station - with its excellent rail connections to South London, and the southern counties. London Bridge is also on the Jubilee and Northern Line.

Facilities will include:

  • Tea and coffee on arrival with biscuits, and
  • Tea and coffee for mid morning
  • Simple sandwich lunch (vegetarian and special diets catered for)
  • Afternoon break with tea and coffee and cake

About David Smith

David is a solicitor and partner with the well known housing law firm Anthony Gold, and also policy director for the RLA. He is an acknowledged expert on HMOs and tenancy deposit issues in particular (having published books on both topics), and an experienced trainer and speaker.

Cancellations and refunds

Be safeIf you find you are no longer able to attend we will give a full refund provided you let us know within 14 days of the date of booking, and provided that the cancellation is not within the last 14 days before the course date.

In view of the financial commitments we will have to make to the venue we will only give refunds for cancellations during the final 14 days before the course date, at our discretion.

Finally please note that if payment is not made within 14 days of invoice or within 14 days of the course date (whichever is the earlier) we reserve the right to cancel your booking and allocate your place to another delegate, after giving you not less than 24 hours notice.

NB This does not affect your statutory rights.
