Good, sound knowledge of housing law is the bedrock upon which all other fields of frontline advice skills are built. A housing worker cannot properly advise without it, a homelessness worker can’t ascertain whether an applicant is homeless without it and a housing officer cannot adequately negotiate or take possession action with knowing the rules and principles that underpin their working day.
This course provides that bedrock of skills.
Modules covered on this course:
- Identifying security of tenure issues – tenancies, licences and different tenancy types
- The role of contracts and unfair terms
- Termination, surrender and abandonment by tenants
- Legal obligations of landlords
- The law on repairs
- Deposit protection
- Serving notices
- The eviction procedure.
Course delegates will leave the course with a firm grounding in the rights, duties and obligations of landlords and tenants. They will be able to properly advise clients in a variety of work areas, from advice to housing management and homelessness prevention…
Who should attend?
All customer facing staff who need to provide advice and assistance to members of the public in a wide variety of circumstances from housing advisers, housing support workers to homelessness officers and receptionists.
