Ben Reeve Lewis discusses one of his most popular courses
This week saw me in Nottingham doing what is in many ways my flagship course based on 25 years of dealing with rogue landlords, harassment and illegal evictions at the sharp end.
I like Nottingham, it’s a beautiful city and the people are friendly, so I’m always happy to go. Plus its got trams, which makes me feel like I’m on a continental holiday.
I shepherded 18 environmental health officers from Derby City Council through the legalities, tactics and personal tips for dealing with what can often be confusing, and downright annoying rounds of allegation and counter allegations.
Sometimes being involved in these disputes and trying to advise accordingly is like having to un-knot a ball of string as you try to figure out what the offences are, who is responsible for them and what can by done, by whom. All of which can leave the officer trapped in the domain of no gain. A time consuming and frustrating place to be, says the man with the T shirt.
I’ve been asked to deliver this course more lately as cuts and the inevitable reorganisations leave staff doubling up as EHOs and TROs and Homelessness advisers start managing the housing waiting lists.
Yes folks its that seasonal time in local authorities where everyone goes generic again, until the climate changes and everyone goes specialist before a few years later…..yes you guessed it, going generic again hey ho.
